6x6 is where big-cube mechanics start to matter. The outer layers are widened for improved stability, and most 6x6s are magnetic now with ball-core builds and track systems doing the structural work that less-expensive 6x6s don't. Non-magnetic versions are still the cheapest way in, but they pop more.
Magnets are the first decision, and nearly the whole current range is magnetic — moderate strength on most lines, strong on a few. Non-magnetic 6x6s are still the cheapest entry point, but they are more prone to popping: with nothing holding the layers seated, a fast or misaligned turn can push a piece out. The second decision is the core — ball-core builds carry core magnets in the middle, 8- or 16-magnet, which hold the layers aligned under speed better than a core without them.
Track systems
The newest 6x6s split further by track count — single-, double-, and triple-track versions of the same cube. More tracks means more contact points for the outer layers to ride on, and a higher magnet count with them. That trades a little raw speed for stability on a size where a misaligned layer costs you the solve.
Finishes
Frosted stickerless is standard across most of the range; UV-coated options add a harder, slicker surface that resists wear from long sessions.
