DianSheng Galaxy 8x8 (Magnetic, Ball-Core) is the industry's first factory-magnetized 8x8!
Ball-Core featuresI have a bunch of mgc 5x5 6x6 7x7. thought I try a 8x8. but this one is very hard to turn compared to mgc cubes. I tried lubing it but only helped minimally. gets stuck easily even if slightly misaligned.
I am sorry to hear about your experience, this definitely is abnormal relative to our experience and the experience of many other customers. While the DianSheng Galaxy series definitely do not turn as quickly as the MGC series do, they are still easy to turn and solve, even out of the box. If you haven't already, we highly recommend applying some Lunar & Stardust lubricant to the puzzle. If you still have trouble, please feel free to reach out to our support for further assistance :)
Light for an 8x8, especially considering it's magnetic. Feels premium in the hands. Out of the box, it was a bit loose and had some minor pops and lockups, but nothing major. Turning is really fast, and after tensioning, it’s still fast but also stable. Lockups and pops are rare now and mostly only happen when pushing corner cutting too far.
The turning feel is unique — kind of a cushioned, blocky, and airy hybrid. The outer layer especially is satisfying to turn. Magnet strength is perfect across all layers: strong enough to keep everything aligned, but still allows for effortless, fast turning. Outer layer magnets are subtle but noticeable.
Corner cutting is decent for what it is — it’s still a big cube, so expectations should be realistic.
Final thoughts: if you’ve got the money for it, it’s definitely worth picking up.
I am a casual cuber. It literally takes me 20 minutes to solve an 8x8. I just enjoy the challenge. Straight out of the box it is a little disappointing but after some lube and adjustments it turns really nice!
Great turning for this size. I'm happy with purchase.
I got this in hopes that it would be a good 8x8 that turned well and smooth. Compared to my Qiyi 9x9, it is not a fun cube to solve. The turns are tough, the magnets are overly strong, and the grip isn't great. If I am going to choose a big cube to solve, I will 100% go for my Qiyi 9x9 instead.
Maybe wait for a Qiyi Magnetic 8x8 if you are set on this size of cube.
