Calendar Cube 4x4

Would be nice, but you can't actually make all the dates. You can't do August, because there is no G on the cube at all. That one I knew about early. Now I find you can't do any of the May 20's because the Y is on the same block as the only 2 that would have to be in that position. Seems someone should have spent more than 2 minutes planning this. You would expect a calendar to be able to show more than 90% of the dates on a calendar. This one doesn't even go that high.

I was excited to find this because I have the 4x4 version of this with stickers but the stickers are getting worn. However, this new version is assembled in a way that makes it impossible to make certain dates. I found this out immediately when I tried to get today's date, 2 APR 2025. the R in APRV and the 5 in 2025 are part of the same piece so I can't make it say both APR and 2025 at the same time. There's no other 5 I can move into the place it needs to be besides the one on the R piece. After further examining, this issue also will occur for NOV in years ending in 2, and JUL in years ending with 6, for similar reasons. And MAR in years ending in 5 for the same reason as I ran into the APR issue that caused me to discover this.

Normally this would cause me to give this a 3 star review because I might be able to take it apart and put it back together in a way that will actually work.

But, on even further examination, there is no G at all on this cube which means I can't make any AUG dates.

Finally, the text on the DAY piece does not align with the first part (eg WEDNES, MON, etc.)

I'd really like a version of this stickerless cube that actually works for all dates and would give it 5 stars if the issues outlined in this review were fixed, because other than the major configuration issues, it seems like good quality. But all of these issues (easily avoidable) bring it down to one star.

There is no "G" for August, and I feel like some of the pieces are not possible to align for other things like the year.

My son love ribik’s cubes and has already a pretty good collection, so I thought it would be cool to have a calendar one! I hope the year can go high!

I purchased this cube as a desktop calendar, and it is a clear, attractive, useful cube, with a couple fixable flaws.

First, it is pretty tight and scratchy out of the box, which is easily fixable by loosening each side a full turn and a few drops of martian/lunar on each of the slices. After this, the cube moves rather well. Mind you, it is not a speedcube, and I didn't expect it to be, so it's movement is good for a calendar 4x4.

Second, as was noted by a user on the Discord server, the only "5" on the 3rd row is on the same side piece opposite "R", meaning MAR 2025 and APR 2025 can't be selected as currently setup. (This can actually be seen in the photos of the product.) Similarly, the "6" and "L" are on the same side piece, preventing JUL 2026 can't be selected next year. However, the cubies are a split-piece design that are easily separable, and it was easy enough (after loosening the cube) to remove the "5"/"R" cubie, separate the cubie halves, and recombine them individually with another cubie that had two blanks. There is another dual blank cubie in the third row that will allow the same correction for the "6"/"L" cubie. There seem to be enough blanks throughout the cube that reassinging these two blank cubies shouldn't affect any dates going forward. (counted 19 third row blanks, where at most only four should be needed for any future date).

I've owned a stickered 3x3 calendar cube for almost 10 years, but the stickers have been "starting" to peel for several. I really appreciate the printed-on. Hopefully they don't wear off too quickly. Although the screening process does leave some of the pieces pinkish/reddish (from overspray? rubbing?) it doesn't distract too much.

Overall, I am happy with this cube and would recommend it to any cuber that works in an office environment.
