I was really charmed by the idea of an oversized cube and the 18cm cube absolutely lives up to that. It’s oversized and completely impractical to store and use. That’s exactly what I was looking for. It’s just fun. The quality feels nice. It’s certainly not a cube that feels like it’ll break easily.
However, turning could be greatly improved, especially if you’re not keeping it on a flat surface. When you’re holding the cube and trying to solve it, the cubes own weight often turns and misaligns other pieces, preventing turns from happening. Strangely, though, that does give this cube a very good studying use case. If you ever want to make sure you actually know an algorithm and aren’t just relying on muscle memory, this cube will make you think. I don’t think it’s possible to solve this without slowing down. My first solve was about 15x slower than my avg solve on a standard size 3x3.
If you know what you’re getting and just want a comically oversized cube, you will love this. But if you expect to constantly solve this, instead of just keeping it as decoration, I think you’ll quickly get frustrated with its mechanics.
