Introduction

You might be getting tired of the current 18 World Cube Association,  or WCA, events, or even just looking for a new puzzle to solve. We go over some of the best non WCA puzzles to learn.

Kilominx, Gigaminx and Megaminx Variations

The Megaminx, a WCA event, is a dodecahedral twisty puzzle, similar to the 3x3 but with more faces and in result more pieces. Different variations of the megaminx exist, which vary in the number of layers present in the puzzle.

The Kilominx, or kibiminx, is a 2x2 megaminx, essentially a megaminx without the edge pieces and sometimes without the center pieces as well.

The Gigaminx and higher-order versions of the megaminx are also available, similar to the higher order versions of the 3x3, with an increase in the number of layers, which results in added complexity when solving.

Mastermorphix and Megamorphix

The mastermorphix is a tetrahedral shape mod of a traditional 3x3 cube, which solves similarly to a 3x3. Higher order versions of the mastermorphix are also available similar to the 3x3, such as the megamorphix, a 4x4 version of the mastermorphix. These puzzles shape shifting puzzles, which add an extra layer of complexity when solving.

Cuboids

A Cuboid is a polyhedron bounded by six quadrilateral faces. In twisty puzzles terms, these puzzles have 6 faces but each axis can have a different amount of layers.

Some great pickups are are the QiYi cuboids, including the 2x2x3, 3x3x2, and the single-layered 1x1x3.

Another great cuboid puzzle that is so 2017 is the QiYi's 1x3x3 spinner, which comes in a range of plastic colors and is also able to shape shift, along with its spinning ability.

A favorite, the 1x3x3 spinner, a cubeoid that shapeshifts and doubles as a spinner

Jigsaw and Klotski Puzzles

Some newer releases from QiYi, the jigsaw and klotski puzzles from QiYi are not twisty puzzles, but instead are flat puzzles that are best used on a flat surface such as a table. The jigsaw puzzle is self-explanatory, just place the pieces provided in the correct spots.

The Klotski Puzzle provides a little bit more of a challenge, similar to a Rubik's race where the user must slide around the magnetic pieces into numerical order.

Transparent Puzzles

There are plenty neat and fun novelty plastic color variants of numerous WCA puzzles, which make for a fun solve and a great display piece.
