QiYi OS Cube 2x2 is an intriguing, unique puzzle!
OverviewI got the solid purple version of this puzzle and it's been great. Even though I had seen videos of this before it never clicked in my head but this is not a normal 2x2 size, it is much larger, 66mm, about the same size as my 6x6. That said it turns great and the panels that pop out are nice and tactile. You could probably speed solve this if you wanted to and had the right method, but trying to look at it like a 2x2 and using some 2x2 algs usually works after a while to solve it.
I got the purple version of this puzzle. Got it because I just wanted to play with the buttons. It comes with some alternative solve states which are fun to work out. If you can keep track of if a piece has 2N or 2S magnets and it's orientation, it's not much more difficulty than a mirror blocks where not every piece is unique.
It has more than one "solved" state when pieces are all in or all out. You can easily accidentally solve it.
Only gripe is sometimes the polarity interferes with itself and pieces that should pop don't have enough force from the repelling magnets to clear friction. I don't think there's anything they can do to fix that and it's only in very specific cases of pieces being aligned. It's not broken or anything, just the nature of the magnetic field. Not gonna take off a star for physics.
It is very good, but it is very hard to solve, i couldnt figure it out. Eventually random turns did it though
I can't figure out how it works but it's so satisfying to turn. I scrambled it and managed to get it back to solved within a few minutes but I didn't have any strategy since I can't figure out the patterns.
Note the size. It's bigger than a standard 3x3
I recommend it as a neat variation on the 2x2
Very unique design and concept, fun to solve, definitely get the blank one color version for a more challenging experience.
