Speedcubing, the activity of solving Rubik's cubes or similar puzzle cubes, is a beautiful way to encourage children to engage in a social, intellectually stimulating environment. Not only does it foster problem-solving skills and improve memory function, but it also offers a unique opportunity for kids to interact with others who share a similar interest. Here's how you can help find cubing competitions and groups for parents looking to support their child's cubing journey. let us take a look at the WCA (World Cube Association).

World Cube Association

The World Cube Association is the go-to for speedcubing competitions.

The World Cube Association governs competitions for mechanical puzzles that are operated by twisting groups of pieces, commonly known as 'twisty puzzles'.

To find local competitions near you, head to https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/competitions, where you can filter by country, and event type.

Open the drop-down menu to filter by continent and country

You must create an account for your child if they haven't competed in a WCA competition before. Choose "sign up" in the sign-in drop-down menu at the top right.

Choose "I have never competed in a WCA competition" in the form, and fill out the appropriate details for your child.

Every participant requires a separate WCA account. Therefore, if you plan to join a competition alongside your child, or if you have several children who wish to compete, each one must have their own account and register for the competition individually.

After registering an account, you are then able to register your child for a competition.

To register for a competition, choose a competition from the list and click on "register" in the sidebar.

You can then select events available at the competition, specify the number of guests accompanying you, if any, and proceed with the payment, which is usually handled through the Strie on the Word Cube Association's website.

Once you have signed up on the WCA website, you can check out our selection of WCA-approved cubes for you and your child at SpeedCubeShop. Another way to dive into the competitive world of cubing is by joining in-person enthusiast groups, which can be found worldwide and welcome individuals of all ages. These groups often schedule regular meetups, perhaps every few weeks, creating the perfect opportunity to sit down, solve puzzles, and socialize. Some groups go beyond just solving; they offer lessons on mastering various puzzles. Organized primarily through social media platforms like Facebook, these gatherings are not just about competition; they're about connecting with a community that shares your passion for cubing. It's a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of cubing with fellow enthusiasts!

Online Groups

Also, if you’re okay with your child accessing the internet, online groups are a fabulous way to connect with local and international cubing enthusiasts. For instance, our official Discord server is a great hub where cubers meet and mingle. And don't worry about safety; our dedicated team of moderators works tirelessly to ensure that the server is a secure and enjoyable space for everyone.

But that's not all! For those who prefer a different style of online interaction, sites like Reddit offer a forum-based experience, which is a bit different from the instant messaging vibe of Discord. Here, you can dive into threads, share insights, and engage in in-depth discussions. Whether your child is a new cuber or a seasoned pro, these online platforms open up a world of opportunities to learn, share, and grow in the fascinating world of cubing!
