Top 5 Biggest Speed Cube Fails
Here's our shortlist of the biggest speed cube fails, with releases from manufacturers that just flopped, or quietly got discontinued after a lack in popularity.
MoYu AoLong V2 3x3 Plastics
MoYu attempted to fix the corner twists that would occur on the original AoLong that lead to the world record fail, by releasing the AoLong V2.
The MoYu AoLong II is boxier than the original AoLong was. The V II feels more stable and have swift, controllable layer rotations as well as fantastic corner cutting.

However in during the initial release, there was a so-called “bad batch” of AoLong V2s which allegedly had “bad plastic”, simply AoLong V2s manufactured with a different type of plastic that didn’t provide the same performance as later AoLong V2 batches would remedy this.
GAN 460 M 4x4
The GAN 460 M was GAN's first attempt and currently only attempt at a 4x4, and boasted the same GES and magnet capsules featured in their 3x3 flagships of 2018. The cube boasted outer layers that turned almost as smoothly and as fluidly as the layers of a standard 3x3 - however, the inner layers were not so good, especially slice moves. Despite the release, the majority of GAN's sponsorees have opted to use other hardware for 4x4.
DaYan Zanchi 2017 3x3
DaYan's first 3x3 release in over 6 years, the DaYan was an exciting yet dissapointing return for the legacy manufacturer. This puzzle had middling performance and stability issues. This puzzle was not popular at all, however DaYan certainly did return to form with their release afterwards, the DaYan TengYun V1, sporting a soft, smooth feel and solid performance and stability.
YJ MGC 3x3 V1 and V2
YJ had not prior to the MGC series produced flagship puzzles, so the MGC 3x3 V1 was a heavily anticipated puzzle, and received some positive reviews in the development and pre-production stage. However, once released the puzzle was not very popular overall, likely due to the stickered-only design of the puzzle, alongside the middling performance and an overall lackluster feature set. This was followed up by the MGC 3x3 V2, which did come in a stickerless option, but again was not all too popular with the puzzle having some catching issues which other puzzles did not have at the time. However, at the same time YJ started releasing their MGC big cube lineup, which has proven to be very popular thanks to its low to mid range price point and their flagship performance, combined with a fast turning feel
MoYu DianMa 3x3
One of the biggest fails of all, the MoYu DianMa 3x3 was heavily hyped in 2014, especially after the release of the original MoYu WeiLong 3x3. However, the cube had a peculiar piece design, with the middle layers being considerably thinner than the outer layers, resulting in an unpleasant turning feel which resulted in the lack of popularity of the puzzle back in 2014.
