I bought the Moyu WRM V9 20-magnet ball core as a potential main. Regular price for the WRM V9 is $38. I performed 500 solves on this cube before posting this review. I purchased SuperNova service from SCS and have added Lunar lube once. I have the cube set up on adjustment "9" (loosest), with the spring backed out about a half turn.
PROS
Smooth, clacky and quiet compared to the RS3M V5 during metronome exercises, getting progressively more clacky as the TPS increases. Corner cutting is excellent, and the cube really rewards fast turns. It will forward corner all the way past 45 degrees (55?), and backward cut at about 22 degrees at my settings. I prefer UV coating on stickerless cubes, and Moyu's coating is as good as, if not better than Gan's. Removing the center caps is easy to do without tools. The plastic feels very nice providing a muted sound, and twisting is very forgiving. The price I paid for this cube represents a good value for a flagship cube.
CONS
Adjusting spring tension requires a screwdriver (provided) and other tension adjustments require the provided tool. Magnets are not adjustable, though they are strong enough to provide indication they are working. There is very little auto alignment effect. Being picky, the corner magnets may be too strong for my feel, causing pinky tricks to take a bit more effort. Initiating turns on the WRM V9 takes more effort than on the Gan 12 or Gan 15.
VERDICT
This is a very good cube. I rotate this cube through about as often as my other mains (Gan 12, Gan 15, Tornado V3) and I find twisting it rewarding. On my turning feel ranking, I currently have all my mains, including this one, as 10s, though this is "least great?" of my four mains. All of my mains have very similar AO100 times, however, on algs that require pinky tricks, I have to concentrate to make sure I initiate the turn far enough. I do prefer my Gan 12 or Gan 15 over this, but that is just feel thing, since I prefer light and fast over heavy and blocky. This still easily earns five stars on its own merits.
I like my cubes like I like my key-switches: tactile but still fast, smooth, and responsive. It feels more like a Gan cube but similar enough to a Moyu cube that it's basically a Moyu version.
The only complaint is the UV Coating has some blemishes and imperfections on it. Plus it doesn't feel quite as good to grip as Gan's. But compared to the feel and performance, this is pretty minor.
All-in-all great cube! If you get any Moyu cube, this is the one!
Out of the box the cube felt great. Very fast with a light crispness to it. The magnets are not too strong but not too weak, a nice balance. It auto-aligns very nicely. The UV coating is great as always and provides a nice grip on the cube.
After setting up the tensions and lube to my liking this cube really shines! I added a little weight 5 to the tracks and some Martian lube to the pieces and this made the cube much more controllable and smooth.
This is a great cube with all the bells and whistles you could want in a modern 3x3. I struggle to come up with any flaws with this cube. It may be too fast for some people, but with the right setup and lube the speed can be easily controlled.
This easily became my main as soon as I broke it in with my setup. I highly recommend this cube to anyone looking for a fast, crisp and reliable cube. You will not be disappointed.
out of the box, the weilong v9 is extremely fast, loose, and sandy, which caused me to lock up. however, when i compressed and lubed it, it felt smooth and controllable and i got great times on it, but it was still a little too fast. i'd consider the rs3m v5 better as it's more controllable. i'd recommend this cube if you have the things necessary to set it up and if you can handle a fast cube.
HISTORY:
So, I have been cube searching for a long time now and have not have a true main. The longest I was with a cube was the Rs3m V5 Ball-core, but even then, it broke way too easily and was too slow to my liking. But now, after trying several new flagships, I finally found my new main.
NOTE: I bought the v9 and v10 for the first time in the month of November 2024. If you would like to read why I choose the v9 instead of the v10, look for my review in TheSpeedCubeShop.com for the Weilong v10 Spring version under my name, Connor Burnside.
ADJUSTMENTS:
I tightened the **** one full rotation on all sides and set the compression to 3, but i think more stable cubers might like 4 or 5.
It felt very fast at first, and uncontrollable, but having done extensive research beforehand, I expected this. So, I took some silicone-based lube and added about 5 drops. I use Gan 1 lube, not the fancy stuff. Being a teen that isn't sponsored yet and doesn't have a YouTube Channel, I don't receive free stuff, and I don't make a lot of money. :(
After those adjustments, the cube was heavenly. It was still a little fast, but I was coming from the slow, gunky RS3M v5 ball-core. Now that I'm used to it, I improved by solve and shaved off from 2 or 1 second(s)
Thoughts/Recommendations.
I recommend this cube to those who love:
Fair amount of stability, Super-fast speed with fast lube, or you can use slow lube and have a stable speed, AMAZING cornercuting, and doesn't deform.
If that doesn't sound like you, you might like the v10, which is way too stable.
(Read more in my v10 review.)
I love that this cube will not deform, yet it as great cornercutting and is mildly fast.
Overall:
I give this a 9.9/10, only because of the adjustment system. I only wish to have the v10 adjustment system in it to simplify things. Other than that, this is the top preforming cube on the market and is mained and love by thousands of cubers.
