The YuXin Gigaminx, a 5x5 version of the megaminx, is a 285 gram puzzle and comes in stickerless plastic only. It's non-magnetic and features a glossy, vibrant finish. It also has a sculpted piece design, meaning every corner and edge has a small indent in it. This gives the cube much better grip, which is important especially because of its dodecahedral shape and many layers.
Performance
The YuXin Gigaminx has extremely smooth turning right out of the box, even without lubricant. In addition, the factory screw tensions are even, meaning that the gigaminx doesn't need to be set up at all to turn well. Both the inner and outer layers are fast so the cube turns fairly effortlessly.
With regards to corner cutting, the cube has very good forward cutting, especially on its outer layers. However, its reverse corner cutting is far less forgiving and the cube locks up when attempting to cut through minor misalignments.
On cubes with many layers, one common problem is the inner layers sticking to the outer layers when attempting to only turn the outers. This is especially apparent when the cube doesn't have magnets. Surprisingly, the YuXin Gigaminx doesn't have this problem and the outers turn without carrying the inners with them.
The cube is also very stable, having a solid feel that doesn't feel prone to pops. It can be turned confidently without having to constantly worry about the cube exploding.
Overall, the cube has exceptional performance for its size and complexity.
The YuXin Gigaminx is actually so good that it makes me want to pursue professional gigaminxing.
