What is a Pyraminx, how do I solve one and which ones are the top models and what should I purchase? Read on to find out.

What is it?

The Pyraminx is a tetrahedron twisty puzzle, and is one of the side events in competitions governed by the WCA. It consists of four faces with three sides each, and the corners can be turned at the "tips" and a layer below to scramble and solve the puzzle. Created by Uwe Meffert, the Pyraminx consists of three layers, and can be solved intuitively, that is without algorithms.

Current Records

Tymon Kolasiński holds the Pyraminx world record average of a blazingly fast 1.83 seconds, whilst Dominik Górny holds the world record single with a time of 0.91!

Models Available

All of the top manufacturers offer their own Pyraminx models.

GAN

GAN offers three variants of their flagship Pyraminx, with varying accessories. This puzzle is a top performer but hasn't seen as much popularity as QiYi's offerings.

QiYi

QiYi's Pyraminx's have certainly been popular among top solvers, with lots of world records, continental and national records being set with the Bell V1 and V2 magnetic Pyraminxes; X-Man Design is a subbrand of QiYi.

QiYi's budget offering, the MS Pyraminx from their MS line is also a reasonable performer for under $8 USD.

MoYu

MoYu's subbrand MoFang JaoShi offers their budget $8 magnetic version, a nice pickup if you would like to just try out the puzzle. It comes in a stickerless frosted finish, vibrant colors, and controllable turning this is a great option if you are looking to get started with Pyraminx!

YuXin

YuXin's Little Magic line, known for their older budget 3x3, has their own magnetic version which comes in at under $7 USD.
